PREPARING FOR HAITI: 8 TIPS
- Pray that God will give you peace and prepare you for the challenges, struggles, and joys ahead.
- Involve your family, friends, and church in your preparation plans. Share specific
prayer requests,
raise support, and invite them to visit you during your time in Haiti.
- Stay in close communication with Sonlight's staff. Learn about the specifics of your future home and classroom.
- Learn about Haiti and its people. Study and practice simple
Creole words and phrases.
- Send supplies to the boat during the summer, so they'll arrive during the first few month you're in Haiti.
- Pack and send furnishing that will make your new house in Haiti a home. Take framed photos, curtains, rugs, books - whatever makes you comfortable and says "home" to you.
- Reach out to your fellow Sonlight staff members. If may have roommates in Haiti, so get to know them before you move.
- If possible, visit Sonlight sometime in the months before you move.
