Sonlight Ministries provides housing for staff members. Housing comes equipped with furniture, including couches, beds, and dressers. Appliances and some kitchen accessories are provided as well. Single staff members often share houses or apartments and the contents within. Once specific housing is determined, you will need to talk with your roommates and Sonlight staff about additional items you may need to bring.
Below, you'll find some packing suggestions for your first year on the field. The rule is: whatever you use at home, you will use in Haiti. Before you move, you may want to ship some items to Lady Lotmore, the boat which brings Sonlight's supplies from Miami to Port-de-Paix. We suggest you pack and fly in with anything you'll need during the first three months. The following list does not include food items. For cost and selection, Sonlight staff order and ship in most of their groceries from stores in Miami. However, there are a few grocery stores in Port-de-Paix. While local food items are very limited, there is still some selection.
