12 Ways to Make a Short Term Trip Great |
| 1. |
Become part of the team. Be sensitive to fellow missionaries. |
| 2. |
Be aware of your ministry expectations in relation to reality. Be willing to do menial/physical work such as typing, loading, working on buildings, painting, etc. |
| 3. |
Keep up with daily prayer and Bible study. Time will go fast and you will need to schedule time with God. You can’t get all you need from group devotions. |
| 4. |
Be organized but also be flexible in case of delays, last-minute changes, important visits and invitations. |
| 5. |
Assume the long-term/veteran missionaries are right. If it seems like the wrong method, give it time and try to figure out why. If you still have questions, ask. |
| 6. |
Be aware of romantic relationships. It may distract you. We are not trying to expose the national Christians to progressive dating patterns in the United States. |
| 7. |
Spend time studying the language. Don’t be afraid to try to speak. Make friends with the nationals. |
| 8. |
Be gracious and tactful concerning fellow team members. It is no one’s responsibility to point out the faults of other missionaries. Criticism can/will destroy the team. |
| 9. |
Get dirty, eat local food. These opportunities will allow you to make friends and maybe get sick! |
| 10. |
Raising support is easy for some, quite challenging for others. Be willing to help other team members raise support. |
| 11. |
Report to your supporters. Thank them for their sacrifice, for their prayers. Be respectful even if they don’t hold your same philosophy of missions. |
| 12. |
Be willing to continue on in the field. Be open to God's leading. |
