Sonlight Academy at a Glance

• Sonlight Academy is the children's educational program of Sonlight Ministries.



• Sonlight Academy is a Christian school. Bible lessons are taught each day in every grade, along with general academic subjects.



• The Academy began in 1987, with six preschool students in the Alexanders' living room. Today, we have more than 300 students in preschool through 12th grade.



• The program is English immersion. Students enter preschool speaking Haitian Creole; they learn English simply by being taught academic subjects in English.

• Sonlight Academy is located in Port-de-Paix, a city on the northern coast of Haiti. Port-de-Paix is 150 miles from Port-au-Prince, the capital city.

• Our goal since the beginning has been to teach about Jesus Christ.



• We present Christianity as a way of life. We preach about the one and only God who is stronger than the Voodoo spirits most Haitians believe in.



• We hope to raise up future Christian leaders for Haiti - Haitians to evangelize Haiti.

• Sonlight is staffed by 14 American teachers, 11 Haitian assistants, and five French instructors.



• Our American staff members come from diverse backrounds. Most have a college degree and/or experience working with children.



• All of Sonlight's teachers are committed Christians who feel led by God to work in the mission field, and they desire to make a difference in the lives of Haiti's youth.
