Greetings from Haiti! Sonlight Ministries is looking for Christians who want to serve and teach on the mission field. On this website, you will find information about joining our staff at Sonlight Ministries, located on the northern coast of Haiti in Port-de-Paix.
Sonlight Academy is the children’s educational program of Sonlight Ministries. The Academy is a Christian, English-immersion school. This means that all subjects are taught in English, and that the students, by being immersed in the language, learn to speak English. English is not an official language of Haiti, and is generally not spoken by the population. Therefore, the Academy started in 1987 with only one preschool class of four students, and as those students progressed, we added a grade each year. Sonlight now has more than 300 students in preschool through 12th grade.
Sonlight Academy is looking for committed Christians with educational experience and/or degrees to join our teacher team. The students we work with on a daily basis are incredible, grateful to be in school and ready to learn. Our curriculum includes daily Bible lessons in each grade, because we view teaching these children as not only preparing them for their future on earth, but also for eternity with Jesus. We feel that the hope of Haiti lies in its youth, and we want to direct them, thereby affecting this nation for God’s kingdom. We need Christians who want to invest their lives in the lives of Haiti’s children.
Sonlight’s other ministry avenues include Sonlight Church, a Haitian congregation of 300, an adult English program, and translation work. So, we are also looking for missionaries who want to work in a variety of areas to reach and train Haitian people to reach and train others for the kingdom of God. These areas include maintenance workers, librarians, tutors, and those who want to train new church leaders.
Terms of service vary, the minimum being a two-year commitment. I encourage you to pray about giving your life to work in Haiti, teaching its children, reaching its people, changing this country for eternity.
